Comparing Chinese Provinces with Countries

Map Contrasting China's Provinces with CountriesAnother very cool, interactive map from The Economist.   This one finds the closest equivalent countries to mainland China’s provinces based on 4 different metrics –  GDP, GDP per person, population and exports.  For instance  Guangdong’s GDP compares in value with the Philippines, and the province exports roughly the same as South Korea.

The Economist article highlights the massive economic disparity between provinces, but makes the point prices are lower in poorer parts of the country, reducing this apparent  inequality.
