Today marks 50 years since Yuri Gagarin’s first orbit of the Earth. Released to coincide with this, First Orbit is a feature length movie using original footage and mission audio, combined with film looking at the Earth, taken from the International Space Station in 2010.
The video comes in at 100 minutes long, running the exact same time as the mission itself. From what I’ve seen of it the high definition imagery of Earth is stunning, but there’s no commentary. Perhaps one to dip in and out of.

Surprisingly there don’t seem to be many decent map images showing the actual orbital path of the Vostok-1 orbiter – presumably due to the lack of information released by the Soviet state back in the 1960s. Best I’ve found is this annotated ground track. If you’re into space flight the rest of that website is worth a look too
