The tally of magnitude 4.5+ aftershocks recorded following the March 11, 2011 Japan earthquake surpassed one thousand today. I’ve updated my animated visualization to include these. The decrease in frequency of events is much apparent than the previous videos. You can see the majority of events, 560, occurred in the first week. Video embedded below:
Difficult to imagine how unnerving these must be for people struggling to put their lives back together after the tsunami.
